6 December 2023

TUESDAY. The countdown is underway as my days run out to get the job done. Two more families to see today plus chasing down a couple of orphans we have missed who need my undivided attention having not been at home when on a prior visit. Both today’s visits are of note. Yotam is a profoundly deaf boy who is boarding at a special deaf school and doing remarkably well. As not being able to “sign” it’s a challenge but nevertheless interesting as I manage to make some sense of things. The other house call was to see our first girl to have qualified for a top grade boarding school, so we have high hopes for her. Incidentally, her brother was awarded the academic medal for consecutive years at his school, a very clever young man for whom we have high hopes.

Our afternoon was blighted by Stephen losing his wallet in town. Replacing ID card, driving licence and bank card plus having to obtain a written police report for which he will pay is a nightmare here. I fear our Zoe progress tomorrow will take a hit.

WEDNESDAY. The heat chased me out of bed at 4.45 so yet again had a wonderful view of the dawn as I considered the day ahead. Stephen was set to report to the police station at 7.45 to commence the onerous task of replacing his ID card et al from his previous day’s carelessness. It’s now, as I write, 1.15 and he has just returned. Mission accomplished as he described his morning’s pain and misery. The most telling was the office where he was to replace his ID card was like a polling station 😩. Queuing in this heat indoors today is not for the faint hearted. While I debriefed on his misery we received a call from Judy, older sister of Patrick and Peter whose uncle has been terrorising them. (see blog from 30 November). WRONG WRONG WRONG there has been no help from our chief in dealing with the issue and Judy has walked over 20 kilometres to report to a small police station outside the city that she needs their help. Police response – provide transport and we may help!!!! I don’t intend to get involved as charities/ NGOs do so at their peril. Stephen will call the chief this evening. With Stephen otherwise occupied I’ve had an admin session, emails to donors, checking the house bedding state and eating delicious mangos given as a gift yesterday. I’m in for a treat later – Rachael is preparing a Zambian supper feast for me albeit not to everybody’s taste but for me a highlight..

  1. Netty says:

Praying for authorities and those with influence to act immediately for these precious children, act with justice.

Amos 5 v 24 But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

God hears their cry’s for justice. When authorities act , the rains for the crops will be blessed.
